Dani has been interested in horses from a very young age and after learning in a Riding School she loaned her first pony, Dizzy, from when she was 10 years old. At the age of 9, after watching the BBC documentary on Monty Roberts, her mum, Doreen, took her to a demonstration where she bought his first book ‘The Man Who Listens To Horses’. After completing an AS Level in Human Psychology with an A grade, Dani looked into studying equine psychology. She applied for a Higher National Diploma in Horse Management, which she completed achieving top student and a distinction, and alongside studied Stage 1 and intermediate courses through Intelligent Horsemanship. She has also studied The Equine Touch to Advanced Level 2. Through these courses, and regularly helping at Monty’s demonstrations, she met Dan and Grant. While completing her degree in Equine Sports Science (Equestrian Psychology) Dani worked for Grant part time, and since finishing has worked for him full time, also spending some time learning from Dan. Dani has now set up on her own as the first Practical Horsemanship Practising Professional while continuing to help at Practical Horsemanship demonstrations and courses.
Case Studies
Ticcy and Roo's Story - Janet and Jenny bought these 2 untouched ponies off the forest when they were a few months old. Shortly after Janet discovered she was pregnant and they asked me to come along and help. I worked with them over many months, educating them from first headcollar, leading, tying up, feet handling to rugs, plastic bags, tarpulins and everything in between!
There is now a second 'Practical Horsemanship Practising Professional'.... Emily Lindholm
I have adored horses from an early age and at the age of thirteen I got my first horse Paint. Today Paint is still a very significant part of my life and we enjoy a very special bond, stronger than ever before as a result of the concepts I have learnt and now teach.
I met Dan in 2007 whilst volunteering at a Monty Roberts Demonstration. Little did I know that night would begin my professional journey in the horse world. I have worked with Dan for the past two years learning the non-violent techniques of starting and re-training remedial horses; the horses themselves being the best teachers.
My heart has come to enjoy most, teaching students and owners this horsemanship and the psychology behind it. There is huge importance in passing on the knowledge in order for horses to live blissfully and harmoniously in this world with us, and to want to work in alignment with humans, not for or against us through fear or anger. My understanding approach to teaching considers that everyone learns in different ways, just as each horse does. If something isn’t working, try something else, don’t just shout louder.
In the summer of 2009 my achievements were recognised and I was awarded the title of Practical Horsemanship Practising Professional, and whilst continuing to work with Dan in Cornwall, I am now also available for callouts in Hampshire and South West areas.
To complement the Practical Horsemanship, I have also just completed Level 3 Equine Touch. A gentle non-invasive muscle relaxation discipline designed to work on the body as a whole, releasing hypertonic and traumatised muscles, reducing the pain spiral, assisting in lymphatic drainage and detoxification on a physical, chemical and even emotional level. The body is trained to rebalance and its own innate healing power nurtured to work to its maximum potential giving the horse a chance to reach his top performance. I like to think Equine Touch is a gift I can offer back to the horse, and along with a vow to forever ‘see the world through the eyes of a horse’ I hope I can make a difference.
I will be a qualified Equine Touch Practitioner in early 2010.
“Not only has Emily Lindholm become a valued member of our family but I am happy to trust her with my personal safety while working with dangerous horses on a daily basis and to keep my business running while I’m away working in Europe. I trust Emily 100%.” Dan Wilson
